“But Mom, I don’t want to be a lawyer. I really want to pursue graphic design,” Susie said with a sigh.

“But you are such a good debater, and lawyers make more money,” replied Susie’s mother.

Susie rolled her eyes, shrugged her shoulders in defeat, and left the house, frustrated by the conversation with her mother. She felt in her heart she really wanted to be a graphic designer; yet she didn’t want to let her mother down. And her mother made some valid points. Attorneys did make more money, and Susie had spent all four years in high school winning awards on the debate team. Perhaps her mother did know best. But something in Susie’s spirit still longed to do graphic design.

What does your spirit/ heart long to do, art, sports, music, math…? Where do YOU find the most joy and pleasure?

Often we listen to other people tell us what we should do. For years I continued my career in corporate America as a motivational speaker because everyone said I was so good at it. In reality, I longed to do music, television and be involved with the entertainment industry.

When we start listening to the voice of God and stop listening to the voices of others, we will find our passion, and ultimately, our purpose.

Our passions are those things that keep us up at night. Maybe it is the starving kids in Africa or the songs you want to write or the lives you want to save.  What is your passion? Why not make it your purpose?

Perhaps you are believing the lie of the enemy that your passion can only be a past-time or play a part-time role in your life – NOT TRUE!  Two years ago, I left my “steady” income, motivational speaking job to start my own production company (my passion!). On the surface, people thought I was crazy, but I knew it was what God wanted me to do. Now, we are working on our second national television show; truly our gifts will make a way for us. What is YOUR passion, and why don’t you pursue it?

Maybe you have not found your passion, and you are looking to fill the void with things that take you further away from God’s plan for your life. When I was in college, I was lost. I felt there was no room for my creative gifts, and that I would never find my place in this world. I tried to get my value in boys, booze, beauty, etc. It wasn’t until I realized that God gave me my gifts and had a special plan for how He wanted to use them that I returned to my passion for performing.

What is your passion? What is your purpose? To thine own self be YOU; after all that is who He created you to be.
