Starry Night

In some parts of the country they play football, but in my state we "live" football.

For 365 days it seems that this sport is in the headlines. Football is great, but it is a lousy god.

Discovering the Light within your child

I have always loved a starry night. When I was a little girl, growing up in Iowa, I had a view of the heavens that I sadly took for granted. On clear nights, I often looked up at the stars blinking back at me and tried to find the brightest one so I could make a wish.

Creating Memorable Holiday Moments

Every time you gather with friends and family it’s a special treat.

Harvest Moon is a term that comes to mind about now; it’s the first full-moon after the autumnal equinox, technically. Actually it’s the multiple phases near a full-moon that provides enough light that allows working outdoors after sunset. This was vital before the invention of electric lights and implements that sped up the harvesting process.

A TIME TO HARVEST

October is the traditional time of year for the harvest to end in many parts of the world.

You laugh, you cry, you share great stories and memories of years past but once the event or holiday is over, there’s often times a feeling of emptiness. The emptiness is likely due to lack of ability to hold onto or capture all the wonder of your time together. That’s why photos, family traditions, and keepsakes are so important.

It's All In The Attitude

When I get depressed, I go for it.

I've found that a really good depression requires not getting dressed. I have a bathrobe that even nuns would pity. People who've taken vows of poverty would turn up their noses at this heavy, black, polyester, neck-to-toes robe. One plus is that it's warm and snuggly in the winter. (You'd bake to death in it in August. It's strictly a seasonal outfit.) When I'm depressed, I stay in it all day. My friends seem amazed that I can get so low and then bounce back. My secret is the chocolate and the robe. There are three other big secrets though that I'll share with you.

Lighten Up Mom

Moms have a profound ability to impact their children's moods and behavior in a negative or positive manner.

That old saying "if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy" is true. Laughter may be the best method we have to break the ice and ease the tension after a hard day.
