What matter in your life needs a different approach in 2011?  Where do you need a clean slate or new beginning?  Is it a relationship, your health, finances or perhaps an issue with a child?  Everybody’s got something in their life that is causing worry, fear, doubt, or maybe even denial. What is your something and what can you do to make this unsettling issue go away?

What if I shared with you that I have the solution? It’s called spiritual surrender!Surrender is one of God’s greatest gifts if we make the conscious decision to own it.  Surrender will not prevent the storms of life from crashing in but I know from personal experience, it will make a life changing difference in the way that you approach them.

My son’s teenage substance abuse was the circumstance in my life that brought me face-to-face with spiritual surrender.  It wasn’t until I was completely broken with no where else to turn that I stubbornly let go and allowed God to take over.  That is when I discovered the hope, peace and countless blessings that have changed my life forever. As you seek new approaches to your problems this year, let’s take a closer look at what we know about spiritual surrender.

  • Everyone struggles with giving their worries to God. – Human nature fears putting faith and trust in a God we cannot physically see.  It is easier to trust in our own way rather than trust God’s way.
  • Denial is a spiritual coma that prevents obedience. – Denial is one of the biggest roadblocks in surrendering to God.  Denial involves rationalizing the problem, making it less than it is, or handling it in our own way out of doubt and fear.
  • Surrender requires a personal relationship with God. – If you can trust your closest earthy friend with your worries, why can’t you trust God?  He is the only one who has the power to do something about it. Spend more time with God and move him from a mere acquaintance into your inner circle of trust.
  • Surrender requires trust in God’s timing. – So many times when we think that God has ignored our prayers, he is at work orchestrating all the moving parts that we cannot see.  His perfect timing works in our best interest every single time.
  • Surrender is a process. – It is a process that requires discipline and practice.  Like anything else, this process does not come overnight. Be patient and keep surrendering.
  • When we are surrendering our worries to God, we are living a life that God can bless. – A surrendered life makes God smile.  It is a life with less worry and total dependence on God.  We position ourselves to receive all that he wants to give.
