Passing on a Good Story – Priceless!

I truly enjoyed the time my kids and I got to spend back home this summer. I take them as much as the Lord allows because I want them to know who they are, where their roots came from and ensure they develop memorable relationships.

Watching my uncle and cousin feed their catfish was so much fun.  My kids were leaning over the side, running back and forth looking at the water in amazement as the fish would surface to devour the food.  They were having the time of their lives.  It certainly wasn't as fun for my aunt.  Some things never change.  She was worried and jumpy the whole time, convinced that at any second one of the kids was going to fall off the dock.  Every time one of them moved an arm she ‘took to squealing’. "Now Tanie, she's going fall in, hold her by the shirt!"   I had to laugh and tell my kids the story because it wasn't so many years ago that her kids and I were the ones standing on the dock fishing and she was doing the same thing to us.

One day she was really on us.  We were having fun but she was  hollering the whole time we were fishing.  Right beside the boat dock was a concrete boat ramp.  She was standing on it watching us.  Right when she was getting onto one of us her flip-flop hit some moss and she slid down that boat ramp just like she was on a water slide.  Her flip-flops were gone and every time she would stand up to walk back up the ramp she would slide right back down.   We laughed our sides out.

My kids were cracking up as I told that story.  There is nothing as valuable as good memories and passing along a good story.  Every time we are together my kids learn something new about me and about my time growing up. That's what Jesus wants us to do with him.

Recently a friend said “we need to feast with our Savior”.  It's true.  I really believe that was one of the many things Jesus was teaching us at the Last Supper.  In that story his disciples are sitting in his fellowship feasting or just plain ole spending precious time with their Lord.  They didn't quite realize exactly how precious it was but I am certain they looked back and remembered it fondly.  Don't you know they told that story again and again.?  When we read God's word, we spend time with him and learn something new every time.  Without it you never really get to know how great Jesus is.

I pray that we all spend more time getting to know that sweet man named Jesus, who once spoke those precious words "Do this in remembrance of me" and that we too will be willing to retell the story and keep passing it on.

With Love In Him,
