It all started with me yellin’ for them to hurry up and get ready for the first day of the season at our friendly neighborhood water park. I'm busy with my own-self. You know what I'm saying. My legs had been in denim hibernation for months. Preparations had to be made. I heard Beth Moore once say that tan fat looks better than white fat and friends I'm with her!
I start hollerin’ for them to come on so we can beat the water park rush and they come out of the bathroom looking like two sick zebras! They had decided they needed a fake tan too. They had sprayed sunless tan on each other but only in random patches! They had bronze spots randomly sprayed here and there. They looked like they had gotten a bad skin disease. I went crazy on them. "I can't believe you two always got to make me look so goofy."
Everybody else's kids always look so polished and put together. They got little bows in their hair to match their swimsuits, a terry cloth cover-up with flip flops and beach towel with their name embroidered on it. Half the time we can’t find the matching bottom to the top of the tankini. We walk in with old bath towels with bleach spots on them. I can't even go to the water park without lookin’ like I brought Hee and Haw with me!
When I was done carrying on, they may have actually felt like lepers at that point. I had crushed their efforts to fit in too. Shame and disappointment was the look on their faces as they listened to me carry on.
It's funny, because all that fussin’ was completely forgotten as we turned into the parking lot and they saw the big picture of potential for a great day ahead. Their eyes were on the prize. They had completely forgotten the condition of their skin. All they cared about was having fun. I told them they didn't have to worry about long lines because once people got a good look at their skin they'd find themselves standing in line alone. That made us laugh.
In Hebrews 12:1-3 it says, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." Let us fix our eyes on Jesus. That's how God wants us to run, like children. They were able to throw off what could have hindered them from having fun by keeping their eyes on the prize! They weren't about to let anything get in their way!
I'll let this be another of many lessons for me. A reminder not to let anything get in the way of the prize the good Lord has in store for me. This ole world’s perceptions of me and my kiddos are NEVER worth more than my time with them and my time with HIM! I pray that you too won’t let the same goofy things that get me all tangled up and keep me from havin’ fun entangle you. I know there's gonna be drama when your a mama but I'm not gonna let it keep me from runnin’ the race. So friends let me encourage you as well, to run in such a way as to get the prize! It's worth it!
With Love In Him,
The Always Drama Mama,
Tanie Ree
