Honk Your Horn For Jesus!

Have you ever been in one of those situations where you just want to disappear?

Have you ever been in one of those situations where you just want to disappear?  Like the other day when Granny and Mamma were getting ready to go to town and the old car they were driving decided to honk and flash its lights randomly.  I know we've all been there before but this time it was for real.  Just when they thought it was safe enough to leave the house for Granny’s appointment, that ole Buick started honking again.  This time it wouldn't stop!  They had to drive that car right down the main drag of town honking and flashing all the way.  The other cars on the road were pulling over to let them by or waving and honking back trying to warn them their lights were flashing, like they didn't already know.  Mom finally rolled down her window at a stop light and informed the gentleman pointing that she was on her way to the nearest mechanic.  He told her that he just wanted her to know that her tire was almost flat.

I am laughing as I write this story.   The visual alone gets me rollin’, but at the same time my pride is so glad it didn't happen to me.  It's awful when you find yourself in situations like that.  It’s hard to laugh in the moment because the experience is so humbling that no one would ever choose to place themselves in it on purpose.

Our Savior did just that.  First his parents are denied a place to stay, then He is born in a manger where the animals are, and I have to mention the fact that Isaiah 52:23 tells us he had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in
his appearance that we should desire him.  He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.  Like one from whom people hide their faces, he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.  Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by
his wounds we are healed.

Just think, the Lord CHOSE for his son to come to this world and live in a way that we scoff at?  1 Peter 2:21 tells us “You know Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps.”   We should be imitating Christ by humbling ourselves the way he did, on purpose.

I pray this Christmas that we remember what those flashing lights and ringing bells are all about and that we would be willing to humble ourselves enough to not be ashamed to share the gospel so that someone would be able to receive the greatest gift ever given. That they too may share in the peace that Christ brings.  So friends, flash your lights and honk your horns on purpose!  It's Christmas!
