Battle for Men's Hearts
Men, as I fight each day to keep moving in the right direction, it seems that there is always something that happens to blindside me and get me off course.
I am the first to admit (there was a time that I would not admit this) that I have many flaws, insecurities, and just “baggage” from my past. I’m working to break free from it every day.
We all have baggage, some more than others, but we all have this “stuff” that jumps up and tries to knock us down, right when we feel like we are gaining forward traction in our walk with Christ.
Die to live!
In the gospel of John chap. 12:24, Jesus says “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.” (KJV)
This concept of death is hard for most men to grasp. Jesus is not talking about physical death, he is talking about change. Alone the seed is really meaningless, but buried in the ground and nurtured, it becomes something totally different. It becomes a plant that can bear much fruit that in turn can bring nourishment to many people.

Ah, September… that magical time of the year when hearts turn to that special event (especially in Texas) FOOTBALL!
Like the vast majority of people who play the sport I never made it past the high school level (maybe that’s why it is so esteemed in this state). My favorite way to play football is the basic pick-up style where any number of people can be on a team, as long as there’s an equal amount on each side.
Comfort with Comfort
Independence Day is one of those times when our thoughts turn to our men and women in uniform, as well it should.
After all, that very declaration had to be backed up by the commitment of our founding fathers and some very dedicated soldiers.Sacrifices were made then, as they are now, in order to preserve the very freedoms we cherish so highly.
Confidence In The Flesh? Impossible!
As men we are faced with the world view of placing all our worth in our position/profession. In the Bible Paul shows that he can relate. He was at the "top of his game", only to later have it all stripped away from him.
As God destroyed what seemed valuable at the time to Paul, God was also working on his heart. It took an incredible event to bring Paul into this revelation.
Are You Hot?
A few days ago as I was waiting for the water to finish boiling for my morning cup of hot lemon tea...
God used this simple waiting time to talk to me about doing things too soon. You see as I was standing there I was so tempted to take the pot from the stove too soon because I was in a hurry.

Simplifying Scripture Memorization
Have you ever been frustrated, upset, in a position that you just feel like there is no up-side.
Ok… and while you are there someone tells you "turn that frown upside down", or "you will get them next time", or even "you can't hit if you don't swing". Well, I have to tell you that there are no little sayings that will change things or give you meaningful insight better than the word of God! That alone will give you hope, direction, and guidance.
Clear The Clutter
My wife and I have a home-based business. Our office has the usual fixtures: computer, printer, stapler, file drawers, etc…and inevitably, from time to time between setting appointments, writing, and program development, we notice that our office becomes filled with clutter that needs to be removed.
Things that were once important are now not important at all. It never ceases to amaze me how much better I feel and how much more productive we are once this clutter is removed. As I was going through this exercise of "de-cluttering" the office recently, it occurred to me how we need to do this same exercise in our hearts from time to time. You see sometimes, if we are not careful, we can allow clutter to build up in our hearts that we just don't need!
Your Best Defensive Strategy
As we prepare for the holiday season, while taking time out to enjoy a few football games, I am reminded of just how important it is to have a defensive strategy not only in sports, but, more importantly, in life.
We know that there are many types of defensive strategies and that their overriding goal is to prevent the offensive opponent from scoring. Let's take a moment to consider our true opponent from a spiritual perspective.

Immediately after the Saints victory, Drew appeared on Good Morning America, Late Show with David Letterman, and rode in a Walt Disney World parade, and that was all in one day. The hectic pace has continued for the past four months, which have been packed with a list of public appearances and charitable events long enough to rival the length of the team roster.
Marriage Matters
James 1:21 says, "Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls."
The word "engrafted" comes from the Greek word "emphytos" (pronounced em-phu-tos) that is translated as follows: 1) Inborn, existing at birth; 2) Implanted by nature; 3) Implanted by others instruction; 4) The doctrine implanted by your teachers
