I

Men, as I fight each day to keep moving in the right direction, it seems that there is always something that happens to blindside me and get me off course.  I am the first to admit (there was a time that I would not admit this) that I have many flaws, insecurities, and just “baggage” from my past.  I’m working to break free from it every day.

We all have baggage, some more than others, but we all have this “stuff”  that jumps up and tries to knock us down, right when we feel like we are gaining forward traction in our walk with Christ. I get frustrated, upset, and just plain mad sometimes as I start to feel defeated in spite of my efforts to become a strong man of God.

Nonetheless, I have to tell every man out there …. DON”T GIVE UP, KEEP MOVING FORWARD!     Remember when you are at your weakest God is at His strongest. We have to remember that growth takes time and with growth comes growing pains. As you grow, the things that were once hard become easy and you become stronger. Jesus encourages us in our decision to follow Him, “… but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.” Matthew 10:22

Here are some ways we, as men, can stand firm:

  1. Read the Bible – as you get into the Bible, it will get into you

  2. Pray – it’s just talking with God

  3. Schedule quite time with God – I get up early when no one is up and it is just me and Him

  4. Go to church – it’s important to have a place to call home, accountability, and family

  5. Get “plugged in” to a Christian Men’s Group (there are several in DFW and through churches)

  6. Find someone that you can be decipled by.  Most men don’t have another guy they can grow in the faith with, call in times of need, and to open up to. A discipleship relationship is life-giving!

  7. Be on the alert of the enemy – make mental notes or write list down of the ways the enemy attacks you, where are you vulnerable, and be aware so that you can be prepared.

  8. Don’t go where you know you will be tempted – if you know that donuts are a weakness and every time you are around them you can’t stop from have 2. 3, 4 or 5… steer clear of the donut shop!

  9. Know that you can change - we are not dogs so you CAN teach and learn no matter how old you get and no matter what you have done in the past. God can change teach an old dog, new tricks!

  10. Know that I believe in you - even though I may not know you, know that each day I pray for all men to know and grow in Christ.

In Him,

Jason
