As men we are faced with the world view of placing all our worth in our position/profession. In the Bible Paul shows that he can relate. He was at the “top of his game”, only to later have it all stripped away from him. Everything he rested on was gone. What he thought really mattered in his life went straight down the tube.
As God destroyed what seemed valuable at the time to Paul, God was also working on his heart. It took an incredible event to bring Paul into this revelation. It took a bright light, blindness, and the most fearful experience any human could have! Paul was addressed personally by God. God was questioning Paul as to why he was persecuting Christians.
As God worked on Paul and moved him from killing Christians to being a Christian. Paul learned a monster of a lesson that we all must learn. That lesson is to stop putting confidence in the flesh. As men we have a great struggle with that, it is where we hide ourselves and where we find our comfort zone. In our work life we are rewarded for achievement that we hold onto for all that is worth, we can measure it. But what happens when that position is stripped away from us?
As I walk in a new place in my life, I have been faced with the feeling of failure. All the worldly things I clung to have been removed and I am faced with the question of, “Where do I turn?” The only place I can find comfort in is on my knees, the places where men do not like to be! It is where we are venerable, broken, and in need. It is also the place I am finding that God can do His best work. It is a place that I look forward to now.
Men, don’t wait to be forced to that place of seeking God on your knees, drop down now! As God works on your heart, you will stop trying to achieve worldly views of success. God will place you on His rock that you will find rest, strength, comfort, and understanding.
"Whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, which I may gain Christ and be found in Him..." Philippians 3:7-9
God sometimes has to place us in great pain to teach us the greatest lessons for our own life. We have to learn that knowing Christ is the most important lesson - only then will all else will come. Do not lose focus on Him. Stay on your knees. Avoid placing stock and confidence in things of the world.
