Single Father Home Makeover

In an age of reality TV that spans from the ridiculous to the insane, there is one show out there that is quite inspirational.  The home makeover shows where some lucky individual is chosen to have their home completely remodeled inside and out.  I have often thought what a message the body of Christ would send to the world if we could do things like that.

Well such an organization does exist; Mina4Project is a non-profit group that exists for the sole purpose of extending a hand-up not a handout to single parents.  M4P is a change of lifestyle program in which the participants for a period of one year have all bills and living expenses covered.  The single parent father or mother is then focused on learning skills that transform and prepare them for long-term success, instead of short-term survival.  Mentorship and training are provided in areas such as goal-setting, financial management, child development and healthy living, all with a Christ-centered approach.

I can attest to this organization’s work.  Currently they are in the process of remodeling and fixing-up a recipient’s home, a single-father with two daughters whose house is in need of many repairs.  This is what makes this group unique while there are so many groups and churches mainly focused on just one aspect of single parenting, that being the single-mother.  M4P strives to reach out to the increasing demographic in our society single-fathers.

With the help of volunteers and generous donations from individuals and businesses along with the passion that the founders, Kris and Karla Armstrong, have to see lives completely changed not just by giving a fish to someone in need, as the old saying goes, but by providing all the tools they need to go fishing for themselves. They are quietly doing the work that 21st century Christians and Americans should be doing.  Something tells me the work that M4P is doing will not remain quiet for much longer.
