I have done everything the life coaches suggest and made my list of what I am looking for in a man. I was as specific as the hair color, height/ weight proportions, financial status and more. I definitely "wrote the vision and made it plain," as the Bible says in Habakkuk 2.
Now that I know what I am looking for, I am ready to go looking for it! I can go online to one of those dating websites, or attend every singles event at church until I find him or better yet, I can have a friend “hook me up”! After all, I know God wants me to have a husband, and I am no spring chicken. I need to get busy so I can get on to the life I have planned. You know, with a husband, 2.2 kids and a house in Suburbia.
There is only one thing wrong with my plan. It is MY plan, MY man, and MY hand at work trying to it happen.
While the above may sound humorous to some, it may sound painfully accurate to others. Most of us are desperately searching for a relationship with the opposite sex while God is desperately searching for us to be in a relationship with Him. What is the solution for all of this searching?
"Seek ye first the Kingdom of God…and all of these things shall be added unto you." This scripture lets us know that God will provide all of our needs; including a mate. After all, when we seek Him, He will give us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4). But while we are waiting on God to provide our hearts desire, we should also be waiting for Mr. or Ms. Right and not settling for Mr. or Ms. Right Now.
So, what do we do while we are seeking the Lord and waiting for him to supply our needs? Maximize your Season of Singleness! Embrace it. God is keeping you single RIGHT NOW for a reason. What is He trying to teach you?
- Buy a journal and capture all that you are learning about yourself.
- Second, get out of yourself and into serving others. Take this time to go on a mission trip or perhaps volunteer for a local charity. Being of service not only helps others, it might help you get over your loneliness. And, you never know who you might meet at one of these service events (if you aren’t looking)?
- Finally, while you are in the Season of Singleness, fill yourself with scripture about what God wants you to do and who He wants you to be when you do find that special person.
- For women, Proverbs 31 is a great place to start. Study those characteristics of a wife of noble character and see where you have room to improve. “Act the way you want to be and soon you will be the way you act.”
- For men, Ephesians 5:25-30 will inspire your relationship with your wife and Colossians 3 and 4 will help encourage you in running of your personal and family lives.
Bottomline, seek THE Mr. Right (God) and let Him give you the love of your life.
