We’ve just made it through three major holidays in less than sixty days… can you say stress! However, there’s one important gift you’ve yet to unwrap that will make all the difference in your new year…it’s the gift of peace!
When you hear the word “peace” you probably envision a quiet home, relaxed day at work, no strife, or something else that eludes the typical woman. Peace seems to be one of those things that is yearned for yet seemingly so hard to realize. Though, in reality, it’s much simpler than we believe.
Peace is a gift from God. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”(Galatians 5:22-23) “Against such things there is no law,” suggests that there is no circumstance, no boundary, and no law that prevents you from experiencing each of these gifts. Peace is a gift that by choice, you may have anytime, anywhere!
We tend to imagine peace relative to our environment. We mistakenly believe something “peaceful” is equal to something quiet, without stress or external stimuli. However, God’s Word tells us that peace is readily accessible, regardless of circumstances.
A friend recently described a painting to me of peace. The artist painted a scary, dark, dangerous storm. In the middle of this terrible scene was painted a little bird in a nest, sleeping! Her description of this painting has stuck with me as a beautiful reminder that true peace is contentment in the midst of the storm. It’s a choice and not circumstantial.
If you’re still struggling to experience this gift, take your journey a step further. There are a few internal robbers of peace that can affect the level of comfort you’ll find.
Robbers of Peace include:
Like weeding a garden so your plants will grow, you must weed your heart in order for spiritual fruits to flourish. Proper nourishment and watering (God’s Word) are necessary elements for growth. Choose peace in 2012! Make the conscious choice that no matter the circumstance, the environment, the storms; you will accept the gift of peace!
